About Learnvia

Learnvia is a new nonprofit organization and university-affiliated learning collaborative launched with support from Carnegie Mellon University and the Gates Foundation, that develops research-based, interactive, and free-to-students courseware, tools, and supports that empower educators and unlock student success in gateway math.

Grounded in learning science, Learnvia’s approach translates rigorous research into high quality, engaging courseware that elevates instructional excellence, strengthens iterative and evidence-based teaching practices, and advances student success in critical prerequisite coursework for higher level studies. The first pilot program launched in Fall 2025 with Calculus 1, with additional high-enrollment, high-attrition gateway courses to be added over time, based on research findings and continuous feedback from faculty and students.

Founded in 2025 as a nonprofit learning collaborative affiliated with Carnegie Mellon University, Learnvia is supported by Gates Foundation funding for courseware development, technology infrastructure, professional learning development and ongoing research through the inception and implementation phases. This investment enables Learnvia to innovate boldly while remaining grounded in evidence and impact.

Learnvia draws on Carnegie Mellon University’s (CMU) expertise in mathematics education, learning sciences, and AI to reimagine a research-informed math curriculum designed to dramatically advance teaching practices to improve student learning and postsecondary outcomes.

As a nonprofit working in close partnership with faculty from a range of institutions across the country as well as leading technology, curriculum, and research organizations, Learnvia is deeply committed to continuous improvement – designing, testing, and refining its courseware to remain innovative, evidence based, and responsive to the needs of faculty and students.

Learnvia is governed by a five-member board with representation from both Carnegie Mellon University and the Gates Foundation. The organization’s growing team includes experienced educators, researchers, and educational technologists. Key roles already in place include the Executive Director, Director of Engineering & AI, Director of Content Development, Director of Research & Development, engineers, content specialists, a finance manager and an executive assistant.

The Opportunity

This is an opportunity to lead marketing efforts for an exciting new mission-oriented academic nonprofit grounded in world-class research and backed by significant philanthropic investment. The Senior Marketing Lead will play a critical role in defining Learnvia’s identity, voice, and market presence at an early stage of the organization. This role blends strategic brand leadership with hands-on execution, building the systems, messages, and practices that will support Learnvia’s growth over time.

Reporting to the Managing Director and collaborating closely with the leadership team, the Senior Marketing Lead will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing Learniva’s marketing and communications strategy. Joining at an early and formative stage, they have a unique opportunity to build a powerful brand presence that communicates Learnvia’s mission and vision, ensuring its courseware, programs, and partnerships are positioned for national visibility and impact. Messaging will reach a broad range of audiences — including higher education institutions, funders, policymakers, and students. From crafting compelling narratives to driving product adoption and elevating Learnvia’s thought leadership in math education and digital learning, this role offers a meaningful way for a strategic marketer to apply their expertise in modern marketing practices, demonstrate measurable impact, and contribute to a collaborative, mission-driven, and entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing and communications strategy to drive awareness, adoption, and impact.
  • Collaborate with the Managing Director and leadership team to align messaging with funder reporting, stakeholder engagement, and strategic goals.
  • Establish marketing KPIs, dashboards, and reporting systems to measure performance, optimize efforts, and make data-informed decisions.

Campaigns & Execution

  • Craft compelling messaging and campaigns tailored for diverse stakeholder audiences including faculty, institutional leaders, funders, policy makers, education-focused organizations and associations, and students.
  • Design and execute multi-channel marketing campaigns across email, digital, social, content, events, and partnerships.
  • Oversee the creative development process, ensuring a consistent, high-quality brand identity.
  • Manage Learnvia’s digital presence, including its website, SEO/SEM, paid media, and social platforms.
  • Lead event marketing efforts including webinars, conference presence, and faculty engagement events.

Marketing Automation & Operations

  • Build and manage a marketing automation infrastructure to support lead generation, segmentation, nurturing, and analytics.
  • Implement CRM and marketing technology integrations to enable data-informed decision-making and seamless workflows.
  • Develop scalable systems and repeatable campaign playbooks to streamline execution.
  • Ensure consistency and excellence across all communications, from branding to digital presence, public relations, events, social media, and publications.

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Drive outreach to expand institutional partnerships and increase courseware adoption, working closely with content and technology teams to ensure alignment with audience needs.
  • Produce high-quality assets including presentations, reports, case studies, videos, and thought-leadership pieces that highlight the initiative’s progress and impact.
  • Serve as the central hub for brand assets, ensuring consistency and alignment across internal and external communications.

Ideal Candidate

Learnvia is seeking a strategic and mission-driven leader who wakes up every day energized by the opportunity to elevate the organization’s mission and grow its national visibility. This individual will bring both marketing acumen and a deep commitment to educational equity, helping Learnvia establish itself as a leading voice in equitable math education.

The ideal candidate is a marketing professional who blends strategic thinking with a hands-on approach to execution. They thrive in fast-paced, entrepreneurial environments and bring strong project management skills to every effort. Comfortable in start-up mode, they are energized by building from the ground up and enjoy the creativity and agility that come with early-stage work.

They are intellectually curious, adaptable, and solutions-oriented — skilled at breaking down barriers to execution while consistently operating with integrity. They bring a low-drama, high-energy presence to the team, and maintain a sense of humor and optimism even amid complexity.

We seek candidates with experience communicating complex, evolving initiatives in ways that are compelling, responsible, and evidence-aware. They should bring strong judgment around external communications, narrative alignment, and reputational considerations in partnership-driven environments. Experience building early marketing infrastructure, processes, and systems in growing organizations is critical in this role.

This leader embodies a “player-coach” mindset — comfortable managing freelancers or vendors while remaining hands-on with tasks ranging from setting up HubSpot and writing campaign copy to interpreting analytics or coordinating events. Their background is likely in product or issue-based marketing rather than consumer goods. They understand the importance of authentic, evidence-based storytelling over jargon or marketing gloss. To earn the trust of Learnvia’s audiences, this leader must drive a brand strategy grounded in clarity, credibility, and impact. Experience working across academic, technical, and external teams is an asset.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of professional experience in marketing and communications, preferably within education, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations.
  • Demonstrated success crafting and executing marketing strategies that engage diverse audiences and drive measurable impact.
  • Exceptional writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex research and technical content into accessible narratives.
  • Proven ability to manage brand presence across digital platforms, media, and events through creative, audience-driven campaigns.
  • Understanding of marketing and sales enablement strategies and tools
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills, with the ability to balance strategy and execution.
